On Wednesday, Year 1 and Year 2 visited the Braintree Museum; the site of the former Victorian Manor Street School! The children were excited but a little bit nervous, not just to travel so far on the coach but also to meet the dreaded Victorian teacher. First, we had a lesson in Victorian artefacts which was real head scratcher! Take a look at our photos below and see if you can ascertain what these objects were once used for (a wee clue: one is a bacon cooker: who knew?!).
After that, we had a lesson with the Victorian teacher. At first, some of the children were a tad wary but as the lesson went on and they grew to understand her expectations they did a fantastic job! Well done to Henry and Lydia who were our monitor and monitoress!
After lunch we went for an exploration of the museum. We looked and discussed the many different and sometimes bizarre artefacts from the Victorian period.
Thank you so much to the parents who came to help and the museum itself for accommodating so many children!
