Pop art and colour mixing

After an afternoon where we turned our faces into Pop Art in the style of Andy Warhol, we spent an hour today investigating primary and secondary colours. We learnt about the Colour Wheel and what to expect when primary colours mix.
However, we are not the sort of people who want to leave it at that so we decided to try things out for ourselves.
We added three dots of colour to a plate of milk to see what would happen.
The three dots were red, yellow and blue. After adding a splash of washing up liquid we waited and watched. Our plates were awash with swirling patterns as the colours mixed. In most cases the secondary colours of purple, green and orange appeared. This was brief though, as we could not resist stirring our mixture until the solution turned a light brown!
