Preparing for a Victorian Christmas

As the end of the term gets closer our thoughts have turned to Christmas. We spent a few days finding out what Christmas might be like for two Victorian children who came from different backgrounds. We made sample Christmas decorations based on ones which were invented during the period and also simple toys that children would have played with. These were made from card and string and pegs and scraps, so we guessed poorer children would have made them with their elder siblings.
We were very proud of our Thaumatrope, Peg doll and Christmas cracker but thought it was amazing to transport ourselves back 100 years by creating a sepia photograph.
We decorated the frame with greenery and it will make a great surprise gift so do not tell!
Sewing update we have almost finished our ted toy and are nearly ready to pass on our expertise to Bert too.
