We have been learning an oral story about a bird who could not sing.
To accompany our story we have investigated birds in art. Firstly, we folded and tweeked an origami bird and created a twirling colourful bird. These looked just like the ones from 'Igor, the bird who could not sing' book. We learnt that not all singing needs to sound the same and as long as you are true to yourself, your music will fill the air with joy.
Next we found another record in our record box. It was by Fleetwood Mac and on the album cover was a jungle picture inspired by the artist Henri Rousseau.
We looked at other pictures by Rousseau and decided to create our own jungle birds. We painted a backdrop crowded with large leaves and dropping stalks and ferns and then used face paint to change our hands into exotic birds.
Look at the photos we took. We are going to cut them out and add them to our backdrops.
