I have lived in the village since 1973, during which time I have served as Chair of Governors at both Linton Heights Junior School and Linton Village College. My children (Ruth, Tom and Catherine) all attended the three schools in the village, and I am a passionate believer in state education. Professionally, I have extensive experience in teacher education and was Dean of Education and Head of the University of Cambridge Faculty of Education 2006-2011. Before retirement, I worked on education projects in East and Southern Africa, in the Caribbean and in Kazakhstan. I am now a member of the Diocese of Ely Board of Education and Chair of Directors of the Avanti Education Trust, which runs a group of Hindu-faith schools in London and Leicester. I have worshipped at St Mary’s regularly over the last 40 years and supported Ipswich Town FC for over 50 years (this latter, a most frustrating experience!).
